Who dis?
Circus Radix is a daring new contemporary circus troupe based out of occupied Duwamish land and centered on the radical idea that we are all rooted together. We maintain that feats of incredible finesse, the movement of bodies, and change in the body politic are attained through consistency and daily practices in connection. We are devoted to liberation movements of all kinds. Founded in response to rising fascism within the United States, the acrobats, writers, and day-dreamers of Circus Radix are focused on answering the questions of our time: What do we need to survive this? What comes next when empires fall? How do we make it fun?
Where?
We operate out in the open, in the environments we live in every day. Urban parking lots, soccer fields, wooded parks. We endeavor to bring the spectacle of circus and live performance to land that is often overlooked or relegated to a commute, a thoroughfare, a place to walk the dog. By engaging with the landscape with the attention to detail necessary to plan adrenaline-spiking acrobatics, we hope to bring that spirit of attentiveness to every space we gather performers and audiences.
To what end?
Our aim is to visualize a future beyond the late stage capitalism we’re experiencing today. To turn our attention away from doomerism, the constant messaging that it’s too late to do anything so we might as well continue the status quo, and toward a verdant, expansive, transformative future. A future built around relational value, caring for one another with material resources: food, shelter, skills, companionship, art. We visualize this by expanding the pockets of cooperation escaping commodification we see in our world today, in mutual aid circles, skill shares, food sovereignty movements, neighbors helping neighbors, and interdependent systems of care. We invite local mutual aid groups and other aligned groups to table at performances. Our hope is that audiences seeing a path forward which is self-evidently more hopeful and thriving may want to join in the movement themselves.
